People who are burried leave
Behind their memories
People feel sad for them and worry,
But for the living man,
They are never sorry.
This person, who is the sufferer,
Will never be able to withstand,
The chances snatched from him.
He thinks, "Am I under a ban?"
So he dies, and the world is
Forever in debt
For the man who faced.
Death before his death.
Although I started reading it after Peer E Kamil so my expectations were quiet high but to my dismay it doesn't turned out as per my anticipations. It turns out that I am wrong. We start reading the author's best sellers and wonderstrucked, we go back to all the previous readings of the author expecting them to turn out accordingly our expectations and hopes.
Seeing from this angle, I don't mind to give it 3.5 stars out of the total 5 + it managed to make me cry as well so it is not that bad.
The author tries to convey the message that to prove yourself right does not necessarily demand to proclaim it. True people are the ones who by their actions prove themselves righteous. They don't have to paste labels of disciplined and straight forward on themselves. They are who they are.
But it does not mean to let the time pass until reality comes to light and until then be a silent victim of abuse. No one should allow anyone to abuse them. Its the moral and basic right of every human being irrespective of their gender, color, creed, race and nationality to seek protection from physical and psychological abuse.
In this regard, I saw characters a little bid weak in their decision making and they believe whatever they are made to believe. Mehreen remained silent and succumbed to whatever she was asked to do, Aswad made decisions on the basis of what he was made to believe & I don't know what Mishal gained at the end after all the fuss she created.
Although the story ends at happy note but the cost of reality was paid by the Mehreen's physical and mental health.
Plot Summary:
Mehreen Mansoor, an 8 year girl from lahore comes to live at her grandmother's place with her mother after the death of her father. Her father used to be superintendent at WAPDA but he fell prey to drug addiction and one day he was found dead in a gutter. Mehreen was stigmatized for her father's reputation by her cousins. Mehreen's mother got married to another man and she was left at her nani's house. His cousin Aswad sympathized with her and they become friends.
Their paths diverted when Aswad went to London School of Economics for higher studies. After his return things no longer remain the same. He becomes friend with his another cousin, Mishal (who intentionally become friend with him because she was jealous of her.)
Time goes on. Mehreen is now a bright and active MA student in the university and she is the head of various societies of the university but Mishal always shows Mehreen's achievements as her own. Mehreen was unaware of all this. Mehreen got interested in Aswand, her university fellow. Mishal also liked Aswand (since both the Mishal and Mehreen studied in the same uni.) but she continues to play with the feelings of Aswad.
At the end Mishal in the fury of revenge, killed herself leaving last note to Aswand and Aswad depicting Mehreen as evil character.
Aswad married Mehreen to torture her to take his revenge. He psychologically and socially abuses her till the point that she becomes a psychological patient suffering from mental disorder. Soon after, on reading Mehreen's diary and meeting some of the people from her past he realizes that he was abusing Mehreen and is responsible for her state. He vows to get her treated in the best hospitals and take her back to life.
