ؓBook Review: Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mogahed
Reclaim Your Heart
Author: Yasmin Mogahed
"Your life is nothing more than a love story.
Between you and God. Nothing more"
This is my all time favourite book. It is one of those books which you can not get over even after reading it multiple times. The size of this book may not be comparable to Biology book but the weight of the words and message delivered cannot be comparable to 20 kg heavy dumbbell.
I got to learn so many things from this book & honestly this book is so inspirational & stimulating. This is not the kind of book which shoots arrows in the air, with which we face difficulty in relating to our personal lives. It seems to me a quiet practical book.
I would highly recommend it to anyone, whether or not they are into reading books or not.
Here are the highlights of the book which I personally cherish & admire.
1. We are humans, its okay to feel inclined to another human beings and worldly possesions
Because this is something which is ingrained in our nature by the creator. You don't get to hear such extreme bayans that hey you own a bangalow worth x.y.z $, you are not a Muslim.
But the problem comes when we give this dunya a place in our hearts. Making unconditional bonds with mortal things may make us shattered in the end.
2. Let these mortal things take us to Allah
If we revitalize our minds with the fact that the possessions we have, today in our hands are from our Master, then he is the one who can take it back. Thus this perception of things reshape our relationship with this ephemeral world.
3. Making everlasting & perpetual Bond
We humans are meant to strive for the perfection & permenance because we are not meant for this world, our home is Jannah. Humans have the problem of finding these 2 in this world & in this desperate attempt we try to fill our houses with the best of furniture & closets with the best of clothes. But the truth is that we are gaping the void in our souls further and further.
"We create ageless creams & cosmetic surgery in a desperate attempt to hold on-
in an attempt to mold this world into what it is not , & will never be."
Why not we nurture our souls by building a strong & loving bond with the creator.
4. I am a woman, not an object
When you want women to wear revealing clothes in the name of fashion this is objetifying women. This is not women empowerment to wear short skirts & bikini. Women, in Islam have a higher aim & purpose
"My value as a woman is not measured by the size of my waist or the number of men who like me. My worth as a human being is measured on a higher scale: a scale of righteousness and piety. And my purpose in life-despite what fashion magazines say-is something more sublime than just looking good for men."
5. Just as this life is not eternal, neither are the hardships
Ups and downs are a part of human life. After a sunset, there is sunrise. Instead of complaining about your trials and tribulations, consider taking these as a source of connection to Creator.
"Every person, every experience, every gift, every loss, every pain is sent
to your path for one reason & one reason only:
To bring you back to Him"
