Yaaram: Book Review

Yaaram: A sweet Read

(Book Review+Plot Summary)

Author: Sumaira Hameed

Publisher: Ali Mian Publishers

مسکراؤ کے رونے کے لئے زندگی مے کوئی دن نہیں بنا
اڑو کے اڑنے کا حق صرف پر والو کے پاس نہیں
The novel for which hype was already sky-high when I got my hands on it & let me say this before starting the
review that the novel and the writer both complete each other. They put that “the” figure on each other.
“The Yaaram” & “The Sumaira Hameed”.

It is one of the most sweetest reads of all times. Amalgam of friendship & betrayal, frail & strong, vivid & vague,
merry & melancholy all cooked in the spirit of sincerity and presented in the bowl of flowery phrases with rich and profuse
language.
(Mouths watered?)
Well, it is absolutely reader’s treat to savour on all the momentous moments.
I absolutely loved all the bicycle rides to University,
home sweet home shuttlecock,
Welcome week and ask me,
Chinese New Year's Eve and dragon parade,
Tweet me,
Exam season،
Amraha with her Asian flag ready to set Manchester on 🔥 fire,
Pranks of Carl ( I laughed so hard on them),
jolly and frugal Aaliyan,
the super girl of Russia, Veera (I don’t know why Russian salad comes to my mind.),
the wise and sagacious Dada jaan,
Sai like a well of secrets,
Lady Mehr giving those mama bear vibes,
Ain on (I don’t even know how to write her name),the Japani doll (gurya)
Saadhna, living embodiment of Pak-India friendship yet strong woman
& Last but not the least Hakim Lukman like hikmat quotes with sprinkles of Persian tinge.
You see this novel is more than just a love story it's far beyond typical head over heels in love
type story. The writer seems to challenge moral and social values of Pakistani people and you feel
motivated to be the best of yourself seeing all these characters struggling for their better self.
It's a story of self realization for the characters and for ourselves.
Amraha, from a girl not even able to stand on stool without her Dada jaan to a confident & self-reliant girl.
Aaliyan, a boy from a state of self-denial to overcome all the odd ones out there and face his identity.
Veera, learning to move on.
Carl, he never changes never mind, he is who he is thats how he his 😉

This journey of self assurance was not covered overnight. Piece by piece, bits by bit the writer developed the personality of
characters and intertwined our emotions with them so that at the end of the read we left a piece of heart somewhere in Manchester.

عشق جو اسرار اعظم ہے۔
داستانِ یار
یارم۔

And Yes I think that story was exaggerated but never mind this is how life is imperfect and beautiful.

Plot Summary:

Amraha from Lahore caught herself in a difficult situation when right after her birth some tragic family events led her family to
believe that she is cursed (manhoos). But besides all this her Dada jaan was always by her side. It was on his request that she
applied for the scholarship and luckily she got admission in Manchester University. There she got to make new friends. She fell
for Aaliyan, a British Muslim but being Pakistani bound her in invisible ties with her social values so much to the point that she
disgraced him for his second name “margeret”. She soon
realizes her mistake but it was too late. Series of unfortunate events led them far flung. Until one day
Amaraha collapsed making Aaliyan realized his unconditional love for her. The story ends at the happy note.
