Lets fall in love in this place
-Paris
The story right in the center of the city of Lights, gives you the sweet ache to make you whimper gently. I can feel this book from the bottom depths of my heart.
You can be handicapped but this can not hamper the desire of human heart to love and be loved.
You can be a restless spirit, traveling from one part of the world to another but this can't hinder your heart's desire to leave your heart in distant lands to strangers.
I loved this small, beautiful & elegant book but ultimately it wrenched my heart. My heart sobbed for Pascal who left her heart in the hands of distant stranger, knowing already that he was a traveler consumed by the wanderlust. Sanaan who let himself fell for a far far country, knowing already that he was bound to timeless traditions of his time.
But what one can do to resist the heart, the heart yearning for infatuation, the heart yearning for severance.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
1) Strong Psychology Depiction of Pascal
I love when writer tries to visualize the human psyche. & the story emphasizes on a psyche of Pascal, a handicapped girl who is not confident to embrace her constraint.
بدصورت لوگوں کو بھی محبت جیسے جذبے کی چاہت ہوتی ہے مگر انکا دل نہیں مانتا کہ وہ صرف
اس وجہ محبت سے محروم کردیے جائیں گے
2) Travelogue of Paris
I am damn sure that you will fall in with love the Paris by the end of this book. (Mark by words)
You should be so sure of this from writer of epic travelogues like Hunza Dastan, Rakaposhi Nagar, K2 Kahani (& the list never ends.)
3) Strong Vocabulary
Well, this was already expected from a highly notable & admirable author of Pakistan.
CONS:
1) Unfair Ending
Although I know that decisions in the moments of fit of emotions are not compatible with life but still I hold the opinion that after all the world didn't change much for Sanaan (or more broadly for men). It was Pascal (or women) who suffered the consequences but at the end what was the point. I know it sounds wierd that I loved the book yet I cannot get the morale of story.
2) Fragile Protagonist of the story
Pascal is all the time pitying herself which is quiet frustrating for someone who likes to read strong characters with a sense of self-confidence. (Like me, definitely)
Plot Summary:
Sanaan, a man from Lahore struck by wanderlust, is on his way to Paris on a steamer boat from where he is supposed to go to his dreamland, Spain. But destiny makes him meet Pascal (a French girl who was compelled to walk along the bay of river seine all alone by herself). Although she is as beautiful as one can imagine but nature leaves her hobbling from an accident to let people pity on her. But Sanaan feels sympathy for her & asked her to meet again in Paris. Although he fails to meet her at the appointed time but he somehow manages to find her. They enjoy each others company but at the end their ways departed.
